Summary
Stainless steel in a natatorium is exposed to high levels of chemicals that corrode and rust the metal. The Mansfield ISD personnel were spending 15 to 20 hours a week cleaning the rust and corrosion from the stainless steel. In 2008, the stainless was cleaned and ProtectaClear was applied. After 5 years, the coating was reapplied as a maintenance procedure. ProtectaClear is self annealing and blends to itself so stripping the original coating was not necessary. The stainless steel still shows no signs of rust or corrosion.

The maintenance department was spending 15 to 20 hours a week cleaning the stainless, only to have the surface rust back within a week.
While researching possible solutions, I came across Everbrite and discussed our situation with them. I ended up purchasing a sample of ProtectaClear and recoated a few ladders on both ends of the pool.
After three months there was still no surface rust on the ladders, and after six months the ladders are still looking like new.
I purchased 5 gallons of ProtectaClear and in January 2008, started to coat all stainless steel items, which included: 24 starting blocks, 8 ladders, 16 flag poles, 1 meter and 3 meter diving rails, 2 bulkheads, and 1 handicap lift.
It has been well over a year since the recoat and all the stainless steel is looking good. This was a good investment for the Mansfield I.S.D. Natatorium.
